Granite Peaks Ranch has a balanced variety of natural trails that vary in complexity and range in distance from 2-6 miles round trip to the barn. Grasses vary in textures and height, grounds can differ from grasslands to dry and rocky to boggy ranges. We have staged small pens throughout the property to allow for breaks.

If you are familiar with riding Icelandic Horses but do not have one, we may be able to accommodate you. Please contact us to see if we can get you a good match with one of our Icies!

Granite Peaks Ranch is a located one hour from Durango, CO and 1.5 hours from Pagosa Springs, Colorado. It is a private ranch that is nestled at the head gate to the San Juan National Forest and the Weimenuche Wilderness.

Boarding is limited to Icelandic Horse Club Members only.

We offer individual stalls, private round pen set up, or fenced grazing for short-term stays.  Stall cleaning and water service available twice daily but we leave it up to equine owners to feed unless other arrangements have been made.

When visiting Granite Peaks Ranch, please consider that our ranch pastures are at 7800’, San Juan Mountains reach well above that which should be taken seriously. Make sure to bring helmets, sun protection (mineral types preferred for our rivers), an all weather light jacket, and be aware of your surroundings as you go on trails. Granite Peaks Ranch is surrounded by wilderness, temperatures vary throughout the day and you may come across moose, deer, elk, coyote, and if you are lucky bear.

We raise Yaks and they graze freely on our property, use this as an opportunity to get your horse familiar with interacting in an open environment. The yaks are very calm and will not come up to you. We welcome you to a safe place to enjoy Icelandic horses, please be aware of your actions and surroundings to avoid accidents.
